This project, created and inspired by Alma G. Davis, Founder & CEO of AIM for Youth, is a national, grassroots movement honoring and uplifting extraordinary women and young girls (age 13+), that have all been victims of domestic violence and are currently residing in or transitioning from battered women’s and children’s shelters. Honoring a minimum of one hundred-fifty (150) survivors in each respective city where the galas are held, “Dinner for Divas” not only increases awareness and support to the plight of abused women and teenage girls, but helps raise funds for the shelters that attend.
On the day of the gala, a minimum of one hundred-fifty (150) survivors or “Divas” as we call them, are pampered and glamorized, as they receive ”star-studded” personal makeovers, which include hair, make-up, formal attire, shoes and jewelry to match! Our brave “honorees” then attend an “A-style” dinner with celebrity guests and corporate friends that are on hand to show their support and concern for these courageous women and young girls! In addition, each honoree receives free etiquette, positive self-enhancement and self defense classes prior to the event.
New in 2013!! “Dinner for Divas” will start offering continuous trainings throughout the year through our “Diva Community”, as we aim to make “Divas for Life”! These classes will include mentorship programs, employment and financial training, health and wellness awareness, and our Founder’s own self-empowerment program, “How To Overcome Adversity By Finding The 3 H’s: Healing, Hope and Happiness”.
